What We Believe

Our shared conviction is that the most biblical expression of the Christian faith is that which emerged from the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. The recommitment to the authority of scripture and to the supremacy of Christ over His church, which emerged from this historic correction, are the hallmarks of reformed Christianity. We find in the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith a devotion to sacred scripture that has produced a true summary of reformed doctrine, in the baptist tradition.

We describe our confessional commitment as a “full subscription” to the 1689 LBCF. By this we mean that we agree with every part of the confession, while we are free individually or congregationally to disagree with the particulars of language and implication. This is in contrast with the position known as “absolute subscription” which we reserve for scripture alone, and the position of “substantial subscription” which is too general to represent our convictions.
